We have a special group rate of $85 plus tax which is good for three days before and after the reunion. There are a few rooms without balconies and the full hotel is non-smoking. So if you smoke ask for a room with a balconey. If you need a refrigerator in your room, mention this when you make your reservation and tell them it is for medications. They also have several handicap rooms. Our special room rate ends on April 15, so make your reservation before that. Parking at the hotel will cost $8 per day if you are staying at the hotel and $5 per day if you are staying somewhere else. The hotel has agreed to provide the breakfast buffet to Caminites wearing their badge for $10 instead of the their regular $15 price. Don't forget to wear your badge. . Wireless internet (WiFi) is free through out the hotel. The Alamo is about a 15 minute walk from the hotel. RV and Camping FacilitiesFor the USN Retired, Fort Sam Houston has a RV Park. Here is their web site, click on RECREATION, then RV PARK. Reservations can be made up to a year in advance and the number to call is 210-221-5502. For the non USN Retired, here are a couple of parks that were recommended. These are not the only RV parks in the area.
What to Bring
Caiman Association MeetingIMPORTANT: On Tuesday following lunch we will have a short business meeting. The offices of USS CAIMAN Assn Commander and Secretary/Treasurer are up for election this reunion. Yeo and Smitty will be campaigning very hard for re-election. On Monday Yeo is buying all the drinks in the hospitality room and Smitty will pick up the tab Tuesday morning. The CAIMAN Assn will buy the drinks the rest of the reunion Door PrizesNo reunion is complete without a door prize. We've got a real doozy this time. Check out our door prize. It's a beautiful three dimensional crystal laser image of the USS Caiman. It's about a foot long and weighs about 35 pounds. Tickets for the drawing can be purchased in advance when you register or anytime in the hospitality suite. We also have a whole bunch of other really great prizes. Several of your Shipmates have donated some really good items. Make sure to check them out before the drawing. If you have any thing to donate for a door prize, we would really appreciate it. The funds we make from the drawing really help us keep this thing going!!! Trip to the National Museum of the Pacific War in FredricksburgOn Wednesday, May 9th, we will travel via tour buses to Fredricksburg to go to the National Museum of the Pacific War. It is also know as the Admiral Nimitz Museum. Here is a link to their web site. Fredricksburg is the Admiral's home town. Travel time is approximately an hour and 15 minutes each way. Also, bring your own water/soda if you want something to drink during the bus ride. Lunch will be YOYO (you’re on your own). Fredericksburg is a German community and there are many restaurants and cafes in the area. Also there are several gift shops available for the ladies. Golf TourneyYes, the golf tournament is on. Once again, Phil McGaughey has agreed to setting it up and running it again. Hospitality SuiteOur hospitality suite will be open from 0800 till midnight with two exceptions. The hospitality suite will be closed on Tuesday during the luncheon and Thursday during the banquet as both meals will be in a different room. Good news is that the short walk will help you build up an appetite. As long as someone stays at the hotel during the trip to Fredricksburg, the hospitality suite will be open. As usual we will have free beer, soft drinks, water, and coffee. Sticky buns will also be available in the mornings for those who do not want to go to breakfast. Also, don’t forget the ship store. Remember the money you spend at the CAIMAN ship store supports our newsletters and reunions. Uniform of the DayCASUAL dress is the uniform for every day. Jeans, tee shirts, polo shirts, shorts and sandals what ever. The banquet is business casual or pants and a shirt. As long as you are dressed for the street it will be OK.
