Join USS Caiman Association

The USS Caiman Association was launched at the first Caiman Reunion in Colorado Springs on August 12, 2004. Those in attendance voted to accept the bylaws as written and the nominated officers were voted in as presented.

The purpose of the USS Caiman Association is to renew and maintain camaraderie among former shipmates who served aboard the USS Caiman (SS-323) from its launching in 1944 to 1972 when it was transferred to the Turkish Navy. Our Association provides the organizational structure and resources so that we can locate all Caiman shipmates, provide communications channels through our web site, master sailing list and member network, hold periodic reunions for all shipmates and their spouses, families and friends and pay our respects to deceased shipmates.

Our success is dependent on the active participation of Caiman shipmates joining our Association. If you are not a member yet, please take the time to fill out our membership application and send it in with your dues. Membership is available for either a two year membership or the more economical lifetime membership. Here are some of the benefits for joining our association:

  • Lifetime Membership Discount
  • Discount on reunion registration
  • 10% Discount on Caiman Store items
  • Access to Master Sailing List
  • Access to members only web site area

A two year membership is $10. A lifetime membership is only $75.

Any former crewmember, officers and enlisted, who served on board of the U.S.S. CAIMAN (SS 323) for duty and is qualified in submarines, is eligible to apply for and be accepted as a member of the Association.

The members of the Commissioning Crew of the USS CAIMAN (SS 323) will be awarded an honorary life membership and have all benefits of membership. The widow of any former CAIMAN veteran, who is eligible for membership in the Association, will be awarded an Honorary Membership. Other Honorary Memberships may he awarded as recommended by The Board of Officers, or any other member, and with the approval of a majority of the membership in attendance at a general membership meeting. Honorary Members will not be required to pay dues.

Any individual who is a member of the immediate family of any former Caiman veteran, who is eligible for membership in the Association, and whom a U.S.S. CAIMAN (SS 323) Association member sponsors may apply for Association Membership

Please see our Bylaws for all the membership information.

Association dues is used to cover our administrative costs, such as postage, office supplies, newsletter publication, and web site maintenance. Our goal is to keep all of our shipmates, spouses, widows, honorary members, and associate members informed of all our association activities. The Association Bylaws describes the purpose of our organization, membership and the duties of the officers, etc.

As of June 2005, the USS Caiman Association was granted tax-exempt status as a non-profit veterans association under section 501(c)(19) of the Internal Revenue Code. Because our membership consists of over 90% war veterans, all donations made to our organization are tax deductible. Here is a copy of the letter granting us tax exempt status from the IRS.
